On today’s episode, Nafeesah Leverett and I discuss how digging into scripture and leaning on God has helped her to clarify the purpose God has for her life. Nafeesah built her business, Build Her Up, after experiencing the devastating effects of depression and seriously considering taking her own life. Her friends and family intervened, and it was then that she realized God had a greater plan for her life.

Finding Clarity through Averted Tragedy

Nafeesah and I talk about how has traveled in her faith journey and how it has evolved as she moved through her life. She discusses her mom’s drug abuse and how that impacted her family. She talks about what it was like to grow up with her grandmother as her defining role model. We also delve into what led her down the journey to potential self-harm.

She was raised in the church, but as many do in their late teens and early twenties, she took a divergent path away from God. During college, she began to drown in feelings of self-doubt and found herself sliding into depression. It was when she decided to take her own life however, that she truly felt God move in her life. The day that she decided she was done, a friend stepped in and just sat with her. After this defining moment, Nafeesah was presented with moment after moment and instance after instance of God’s involvement in her life.

Her Purpose: Sharing her Message to Empower Women in Finding their Purpose

After she started working with a therapist to dig through the problems causing her to consider self-harm, she realized that her purpose was to share her message with the world. If she can help even one woman to realize God’s purpose for their life, then she will have succeeded in fulfilling God’s plan in her own life.

Ephesians 4:29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

This scripture that propels Nafeesah in her purpose and drives her to push through her demons and build other women up. This scripture that allowed her to move beyond the fog of her past to realize that she had to go through her experiences to properly lead the women she has been called to commune with. Without trials and tribulations, it is difficult to lead others through their own hardships.

3 Key Takeaways to Clarifying Your Purpose and Finding God’s Path for You

  • Surrender all to God - In order to find clarity and to see God’s plan for your life, you must first surrender your past, your problems, your wins, and your doubts to Him. He cannot show you the path if you are not willing to give over your life and your thoughts to Him.

  • Get support - Surround yourself with other people who want to walk with you in your faith journey. Take the time to pray together and commune together to discuss the things that are on your hearts and to seek solace in scripture.

  • Lean into the Word - it is through reading and studying the scripture that His voice is most able to be heard. When times are tough, when times are good, when you need to hear His voice, pull out the Bible and read His word.

Final Thoughts:

The scripture that incited this topic comes from the book of Habakkuk. I urge you to read through this scripture and journal on what it means for your life and your business.

Habakkuk 2:3 - For the vision awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

Take comfort in the knowledge that though you may not see it, God has a plan for your life, and it will be revealed at the appointed time.
